The school building was built partly out of public donations on the grounds of an English factory. The school rose to college status in 1841 and buildings were completed in 1946, with the aid of the Bishop of Calcutta. In the first graduating class there were both Muslim and Hindu students, as well as a number of foreign students, mainly from Armenia and Portugal.
The college was relocated in 1873 to a large building to the east of Victoria Park in order to accommodate the physics and chemistry laboratories. Later it shifted in 1908 to Curzon Hall while the science departments were housed in the present chemistry building of the University of Dhaka. In 1921 the college shifted again to the present High Court Building. During the Second World War it moved to Siddique Bazar. At present, it has its own campus near Dhaka New Market.

ব্র্যাক শিক্ষা কর্মসূচির কম্পিউটার এইডেড লার্নিং (সিএএল) কার্যক্রম এনিমেশনকৃত পাঠ-উপকরণ ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে পাঠ্য বিষয়কে সহজ এবং পাঠদান প্রক্রিয়াকে অংশগ্রহণমূলক ও আনন্দদায়ক করার প্রয়াস। শ্রেণিকক্ষ পর্যায়ের অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে দেখা গেছে, কিছু বিষয়ের পাঠ্যপুস্তকের বেশ কিছু অধ্যায়/পাঠ শিক্ষার্থীর বুঝার জন্য বেশ কঠিন। এমনকি এ ধরণের বিষয়ে শিক্ষার্থীদের ধারণা স্পষ্ট করতে শিক্ষকদেরও শত চেষ্টাসত্তেও সম্ভব হয় না। এমন পরিস্থিতিতে শিক্ষাদান প্রক্রিয়ায় শিক্ষকদের এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের সহায়তা করতে ব্র্যাক পেইস কর্মসূচি কম্পিউটারকে শিক্ষার সাথে সম্পৃক্ত করে ২০০৫ সাল থেকে কম্পিউটার এইডেড লার্নিং (সিএএল) কার্যক্রম শুরু করে। জাতীয় পাঠ্যক্রেমের ভিত্তিতে অংশগ্রহনমূলক শিক্ষাসফটওয়ার তৈরি ও শ্রেণিকক্ষে ব্যবহার নিশ্চিত করে শিক্ষকদের পাঠদান সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য শ্রেণিকক্ষকে অধিকতর আনন্দদায়ক ও উদ্দীপনা সঞ্চারী করে গড়ে তোলা এই কার্যক্রমের উদ্দেশ্য।
সকল সিএএল উপকরণ শ্রেণিকক্ষে পাঠদান ও স্ব-শিক্ষণ উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই ব্যবহার উপযোগী ও কার্যকর। এসব উপকরণ শিক্ষকদের পাঠদান দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধি ও শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য জটিল বিষয়কে সহজে বোধগম্য করতে সহায়তা করে।
সিএএল উপকরণের উদ্দেশ্য:
- শ্রেণিকক্ষকে অংশগ্রহনমূলক ও আরো শিখন সহায়ক করে তোলা।
- পাঠদান অধিকতর আনন্দদায়ক মনযোগ-আকর্ষক করা।
- পাঠ্য বিষয়বস্ত্তু সম্পর্কে শিক্ষার্থীদের ধারণা স্পষ্ট করা তোলার মাধ্যমে শিখনকরা,শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থী উভয়ের জন্য স্ব-শিক্ষণের ব্যবস্থা করা।
- শিখন ও শিক্ষা কার্যক্রমে কম্পিউটার প্রযুক্তির সম্পৃক্তকরণ এবং গ্রামের শিক্ষার্থী ও শিক্ষকদের প্রযুক্তিবান্ধব করণ।
